It was a long weekend for Roco Mediate and Tiger, but it was Tiger who came out on top. Now, I am not one to follow golf a whole lot. I know the regulars, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, and of course Tiger Woods, among others. There are many players out there on the PGA Tour, but none greater known than Tiger Woods right now. Some say he’s the greatest ever, especially after today. Some say he won’t be the greatest ever until he passes Jack Nicklaus (not Jack Nickolson). Tiger is the only reason that I care about golf. Its not at the top of my list of sports that I care a whole lot about. If Tiger is in it, I will check in on the tourney. And with Tiger recovering from his knee surgery from about a couple months ago, it was even more exciting to follow. Friday night, a 30 on the back 9. Saturday, two eagles. Some say he was faking the injury, but no way, you could tell he was in pain. Then Sunday he comes up with an amazing putt on the 18th hole, sending it to the playoff. He is the greatest golfer on the planet right now. And if he isn’t the greatest golfer ever, he will be. He is a tremendous athlete, quite possibly the best athlete in the world. The man is ripped, in shape, making other players get into better shape to try to beat him. He’s changing the face of golf in so many ways. He has the time, the strength, the endurance to pass Nicklaus, and probably even become the first to win 20 majors. But….I have one question. Will he truly last? No one seems to be asking that question, but I am. Its his 3rd knee surgery, and its the knee on the leg that he gets all his power from? Why is he always the one to have the longest drives or one of them? He buckles his knee which gives him a lot more power than most golfers. Its a part of his swing that just can’t be changed. How many surgeries will he have to have? And when comes the point of too many surgeries? As good as Tiger is, he could have the record by the end of next year. He should have the record within the next 3 to 4 years realistically. But if that knee keeps acting up, who knows what could happen? Now, I am not wishing any bad ill on the guy, just trying to bring up questions. He should be fine in my opinion…it will be exciting to watch. But with 3 knee surgeries, one can only wonder how much longer he actually has.
